NOTES:
Owing to the losses suffered by the Germans in 1941 and an overlapping of missions, it was decided to merge the motorcycle infantry and motorized reconnaissance battalions. By mid-1942, this reorganization was mostly completed. While some motorized redonnnaissance battalion staffs now formed the headquarters of the motorcycle battalions, most motorcycle battalions retained their original personnel. The main changes were the incorporation of an armored car company in the motorccyle battalions, and the start of the conversion of the motorcycle-equipped reconnaissance companies to armored halftracks. The composition of these new battalions varied somewhat. See table below. (In mid-1943, the motorcycle battalions were once again re-designated as armored reconnaissance battalions.)
