[1] The 6th Armoured Division was formed on 12.09.40. MG J.T. Crocker assumed command on 27.09.40. Not fully equipped until mid-1942.
[2] The 20th Armoured Brigade was attached to the 1st Armoured Division at this time. Assigned to 6th Armoured Division on 15.10.1940.
The 20th Armoured Brigade Company, RASC was forming in the Eastern Command.
[3] The 26th Amoured Brigade was raised on 12.10.1940 from the 1st Machine Gun Brigade. BG H.B. Burrows appointed same day.
The 26th Armoured Brigade Company, RASC was forming in the South Midland Area, Southern Command.
[4] The 6th Support Group was a new unit. Raised 02.11.1940. BG Lyon-Smith appointed same day. Only the one motor battalion (1 DY) assigned. (Artillery did not join until June 1942.)
[5] The two engineer companies were being raised in the Northern Command. Joined the division on 19.11.1940.
[6] The 6th Armoured Division Signals had been raised on 12.09.1940, and was forming in the South Midland Area, Southern Command.
[7] The Headquarters, 6th Armoured Division RASC was forming in the Northern Command. Joined the division on 02.11.1940.
The four 6th Armoured Division RASC units were forming in the South Midland Area.
